Video: Jobs of the future

A new survey asked over 20 000 students aged seven to 11 to draw a picture of the job they'd like to have when they grow up. Drawings were received from 20 countries and the results show both traditional and modern career choices are popular among children.

The work was a collaboration between a charity in the United Kingdom, Education and Employers, with Tes, UCL Institute of Education, the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The report, Drawing the Future, shares the results of the survey.

The most popular career choices for boys and girls were police officer and teacher, respectively. Many children also drew pictures of sportspersons. Some less common career aspirations came out of China, with girls aspiring to be artists and dancers, and boys hoping to be scientists. Children drew 63 other occupations which are ranked in popularity in the full report.
